About me
Hi there!
My name is Hanna Periaho and I create original oil paintings.
Since the beginning of my artistic journey over 25 years ago I have been most inspired and influenced by the classic paintings of The Renaissance. During my late teens I saw myself as a bit of a misfit, someone who never really fit into the usual social norms and groups. I was always on the outer, and often felt misunderstood for my quirks. During those years I found myself particularly drawn to Surrealism, fantasy art, and anything leaning towards the unconventional. My art practise has always been a safe haven, where I could explore and express my feelings unimpeded. My past works have ranged from sculpture and mixed media, to acrylic painting, watercolour, and monochrome charcoal, graphite and ink drawings.
Most recently I have journeyed into the world of classic oil painting, learning the glazing techniques of the old masters to help create the moody, luminous paintings that I strive for. I love to explore different techniques as well as subject matter, though I have found myself coming full circle, back to my inexplicable fascination with the unusual. I am rediscovering myself, embracing my quirks and diving right back into my authentic self. My approach to any piece always begins with this strong sense of emotion mixed with curiosity and discovery.
I aspire to create works that weave together the old and new, and explore worlds that are somewhere between the ordinary and the peculiar.
“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.”
